St Kilda Beach

Sunset at St.Kilda Beach was so predictable, exactly at 7pm, the sun looked like a fireball in the blue sky.

In summer, this is the favourite place for many, skate boarding, jogging, or just sitting watching sunset.

I spent many evenings there, listening to radio, my favorite song at that time, was 'Listen to your heart' by Roxette.

I still like this song.

Mount Buller

I rode a horse up to 1000m at the foot hill of Mount Buller in winter. It was once a life time thing, I was lucky that I had done it.

A scenic uphill and down hill ride with 200m of speed riding, imagine speeding on the back of a horse, my heart was almost dropped off my mouth. I had never been on a horse back before.

The view from the top was breathtaking, little mirrors formed from lakes with sun shining through the cloud.

The next early morning, I did skiing . Built snowman, and played snow war.

Snow fell from above, like fluffy cotton.

Fun, and good memories.

Student Life

During my college days, I had worked as waitress, kitchen hand, cleaner, baby sitter and washing dishes.

Living around Prahran( the most happening dining area in Melbourne), my place was just a few minute walk from the main street (Chapel Street). Along the street, rows and rows of international restaurants, Greek, Lebanese, Thai, Turkish, Italian ,French and many other insignificant fish and chip shops.

Some memorable experiences as a waitress. I was given the honor to wear the traditional drop shoulder outfit in a Thai restaurant, it was a compulsory uniform for your information, almost too glamorous and elegant to walk around serving diners.
Traditional Thai outfit, sexy or not?

At a Greek Tavern(washing dishes), met a beautiful belly dancer, dancing around with diners throwing plates on the floor, a gesture of mini celebration of life, it is a tradition to show joy. But why waste the plates?

Learned the art of making perfect Cappuccino in an Italian bistro(waitress). The milk foam on the top would only appeared nicely if cold milk is used, followed by a dash of fine chocolate powder on top of it. Yummy...

Worked for a Lebanese boss in a fish and chip shop(as kitchen hand), he gave me mutton Kebab ( food entitlement ) at the end of the day for supper.

Discovered Greek Dips( with Pita bread) while working in a Greek Pizza Tavern, as waitress.

House cleaning, equivalent to what the Indo maid are doing now, vacumming, wiping glass windows, washing bathroom and toilet, arranging knick knacks that scattered everywhere by the kids .

Babysitting Aussie kids, they were cute, I liked them, no complaint,as I was paid to play with them in a sense. :)

Almost all the local (and overseas) students worked part time besides attending college, learned to be independent at an interesting pace.

Happy Food

I learned the tricks of cooking while studying in college. Sharing a flat with two other flatmates, we literally cooked every dinner ourselves.

Being Asians from Malaysia and Indonesia respectively, our favorite dish naturally came to something spicy, the Curry.

The curry powder was bought from the local supermarket, not very spicy, more to sweet as I recall. Coconut milk was replaced with rich creamy dairy milk. Onions, garlics and potatoes were the main ingredients.

There was no curry leaf or lemon grass being sold in the supermarket, couldn't bother to look for it even if there was(Chinese grocery maybe).

Every dinner was curry, curry and still curry, the only difference was the variety of meat- chicken, fish, mutton and beef.

Once I brought the only dish I had confident in to a 'potluck' party (bring your food and share with others), guess what, it was finished within seconds by my Hong Kong coursemates, they couldn't take spicy stuff yet they loved it.

Winter was the best time to savour curry, with the cold and freezing temperature outside, having curry with piping hot rice in the small cozy dining hall, while sipping fine wines(wines were cheap there),was simply a luxurious indulgence.
